State/Local/Federal Government Research

For many of our cases the historical record is dispersed across a variety of archives and repositories, sometimes at opposite ends of the country.  A thorough research effort requires in-depth knowledge of where to look for all of the different pieces. The professional research staff at Taylor Research Group (TRG) is experienced with a vast array of federal, state, and local records collections throughout the United States, and is well-equipped to locate the records of value to our clients. With their objectives in mind, we develop and execute targeted, cost-effective research strategies to locate the needed information in a timely manner wherever those records are located.

Types of repositories that we routinely utilize include:

  • National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) facilities, including Archives I and Archives II in the Washington, DC Metro area as well as regional archives and Federal Records Centers nationwide;

  • Other federal libraries and archives nationwide, including the Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, and those of various federal agencies and all branches of the U.S. military;

  • State libraries, archives, and government offices;

  • County/Township/City libraries, archives, and government offices;

  • University libraries, archives, and special collections

  • State and local historical societies and museums

  • Institutional and private archives and research facilities

TRG’s researchers have also developed strategies for targeting federal, state and local records that are not presently in the public domain through right-to-know and public access laws such as the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). We work closely with our clients to maximize their ability to obtain the critical documents they seek. TRG monitors right-to-know requests from submission to completion, working closely with records custodians throughout the process.
