Environmental and Toxic Tort Litigation Research Services

The staff at Taylor Research Group (TRG) are experts in researching historical environmental problems at industrial sites, military facilities, wastewater treatment plants and publicly owned treatment works (POTWs), manufactured gas plants (MGPs), and adjacent lands and waterways throughout the United States. Our work in this area includes identifying potentially responsible parties (PRPs), determining the extent of federal government involvement at industrial sites, capturing and synthesizing volumetric information, researching and understanding operations and activities at a site, investigating federal, state, or local government regulatory actions at specific properties, and compiling environmental site histories. TRG assists law firms, corporations, and environmental scientists in determining the source(s) of contamination from myriad hazardous substances, including heavy metals, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), nuclear material, trichloroethylene (TCE), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), perchlorates, hydrazine, chromium, dioxins, phenols, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and pesticides including dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT).

Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs)

Our researchers are experienced in utilizing a variety of federal, state, and local records to assist our clients in identifying potentially responsible parties that may have contributed to environmental problems. This involves going beyond identification of entities that historically operated at a site to include detailed historical analysis of the types of activities and operations that took place there, and corporate succession research to help our clients determine the existence of surviving liable entities.

Federal Government Involvement

Our team also routinely conducts research in support of environmental liability cases involving potential federal government liability, whether as an “owner” of the site or the hazardous substances, as an “operator” having “substantial or actual control” over various aspects of the production process, or as an “arranger” for the disposal of hazardous substances either on- or off-site. TRG is also experienced in researching information on historical federal contracts, including indemnity clauses, awarded by both military and civilian government agencies.

Toxic Tort Research

TRG’s extensive research experience with toxic tort matters ranges in scope from individual asbestos and occupational health claims to mass toxic tort litigation. Our staff has handled issues arising under federal and state environmental laws, including CERCLA and administrative proceedings. We also have experience in researching theories for trespass and nuisance claims. Our toxic tort and environmental litigation research has taken our research team across the country as we collect and analyze documentation relevant to our clients.
